Planning A Pioneer Party

Monday, August 9, 2010

camp-stovePlanning for parties can be so much fun and coming up with a new and exciting theme can make an everyday-party a fabulous party. Kids especially need excitement. They get bored by the same themes they often see at other kids’ parties. While you’re thinking of new ideas, give an “old” idea a chance.

Try planning a pioneer-themed party. First, gather a bunch of cardboard, sticks and cloth to use as materials to build “covered wagons.” Next, plan a menu that you can cook over a campfire in your back yard (or if that’s prohibited, a propane camp stove will do). Also, use propane lanterns for lighting instead of electricity. The kids will have a blast partying “pioneer” style.

Family Fun for Everyone

kidsCamping can be fun for the entire family. It provides an opportunity to commune with nature and have quality bonding time with the family. Planning and preparation is the key to ensure that you have what you need for your outdoor vacation. Bringing too little with you may leave you without the camping essentials while bringing too much may make it impossible to carry everything on your back.

One of the things that should never be left behind when going on a camping trip is a cooler. It’s very handy and perfect for storing your basic condiments. With its insulated material, food stays fresh whether you want to keep it hot or cold. Nothing is worse than setting up your Optimus stove only to find the burgers and dogs are rancid. So if you want to get the best out of your camping trip, investing in a cooler bag is definitely a smart choice.

Propane Camping Stoves

Camping need not be too primitive if you can bring along several items to provide you with some creature comforts. A propane camping stove, for instance, will eliminate the need to start a fire every time you need to cook something. The compact design makes it very convenient to carry.

Propane camping stoves make cooking under the stars a lot of fun. You need not worry anymore about cleaning a blackened pot the next day. You are also given more time to focus on other camping activities if you don’t have to constantly tend to the fire. Make cooking outdoors a quick and easy task. Look for heavy-duty camping stoves that will serve you well for years.

Selecting the Perfect Camping Stove for You

propane-camp-stoves1Choosing the right camping stove is really a matter of deciding the kind of camping activities that you’re going to undertake. After all, propane camp stoves are all slightly different, and each one is tailored to a specific type of camping. If you plan on staying by your car, for example, you might want to choose a larger camping stove. This will offer added convenience and an easier cooking surface, but it would be a hassle if you had to backpack into your camping site with that bulky piece of equipment.

With that in mind, any large amount of hiking is best accompanied by a light and collapsible stove. Because they easily disassemble, they are easy and convenient to fit in a backpack, and because they are light, they won’t break your back when you’re trudging up some seemingly endless switchbacks. You’ll also want to consider how many people will be eating from this camping stove. If you’re only trying to feed two, a single burner stove might be feasible. But as the number of people increases, so too does the number of necessary burners and the size of the camp stove.

Eating in the Outdoors

A lot of people who are averse to camping don’t like to venture out into the wilderness because they don’t like leaving the comforts of home. But even the most city-centric individual can receive a great, home cooked meal at a campsite if they have the right camping grill. While camp food used to be little more than a hotdog shoved on a stick and charred in the campfire, the evolution of camping stoves has made some pretty intense cuisine possible.

If you’re able to take a Primus camping stove along with you on your outdoor adventures, you’re suddenly able to enjoy all kinds of delectable foods. You can throw on everything from barbecued chicken to beef hamburger patties. Slow roasted over these grills, the food is sure to be done to perfection. And because you’re out in the wilderness with your friends or family, it won’t even feel like a chore to make dinner!

Trying New Things in the Great Outdoors

I keep telling myself it’s just a phase, but I’m really beginning to wonder. You see, my children are two of the pickiest eaters on the face of the earth. Their finicky tastes make dinnertime a real chore around our household, and my wife has given up entirely on getting them to branch out. I’m not so quick to fold, however. I’ve got a plan to enhance their palates on our upcoming camping trip.

The kids love to dine of traditional camping fare, which for them consists of franks and beans and marshmallows. But these basic foodstuffs only provide so much nutrition. I bought a 2 burner propane stove online that will allow me to fry up a freshly caught fish even as I stir fry some vegetables. And if the kids don’t like these unfamiliar dishes, I’ll have a spare burner to heat up some canned beans.

Compact Essentials are Key

If your family is like mine, once you have the tent, sleeping bags, food, clothes, toys, hiking gear, cookware, and even more food packed into the car for a camping trip, there’s hardly any room for the kids, let alone a stove or grill! It’s easy to pack your whole life for a camping trip – after all, who wants to be without their creature comforts in the wilderness? – but you do need to have plenty of room for your essentials. If you absolutely have to bring everything, look into compact-sized essentials, or things that pack up very small so they’re easy to transport. You can easily find compact sleeping bags, tents and chairs, but other compact essentials might not cross your mind.

One of the biggest space-savers you can get is a foldable stove or grill. You don’t have to sacrifice hot meals to make room in your car – just get one of these compact stoves and save tons of space. Some foldable stoves even have collapsible burner heads for maximum portability. They make ideal companions for backpacking trips, too!

Keeping the Tradition Alive

As a kid growing up near Lake Michigan, I went for camping excursions at least once every summer. We would pile into the family sedan – I’m still convinced that car came without suspension – and bounced down the highway to a beachside campground. My father prepared a number of delicious dishes that seem deceptively simple now that I think back on them. The pork and beans stands out as my all-time favorite.

Even though I’ve had a family of my own for some time now, it’s only recently occurred to me that camping makes for a great bonding opportunity. I’ve been continuing the tradition ever since that realization struck. My wife loved the idea, but she raised a single camping caveat: We have to provide healthy, nutritious food for the kids during our time out in the woods. A portable two burner propane stove allowed me to meet that goal with ease. I’ve boned up on my cooking skills, and the rest of the family is cherishing our time together.
